CrossFit ATL 3774 The Chick Magnets.  Note how the shorts on the right have an ingenious design that gives the "gangsta look" of pants falling down.

Workout of the Day

Front squat 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 reps

Post loads to comments.

Dr. Barry Sears addresses a gathering of CrossFitters, and speaks about diet, aging, and inflamation.  Hear the full presentation at the CrossFit Journal.

Tomorrow is rest day at crossfit.com. We are considering an outing to West Palisades, Chattahoochee National Recreation Area, for some hill running, swimming, picnic, Zone beer, rock diving, and discussion of health care alternatives. Time 1:30 PM, place is the West Palisades entrance off Akers Mill. (MAP)  (This entrance leads to a beach and picnic area directly across the river from the diving rock.)  Post to comments if you're in.

Sorry Ken, but it appears that Dan is implementing a male booty cam, and that you are at the figurative and literal center of this new program. Congrats and enjoy.
In other news, I find the notion of doing front squats today totally laughable. The DOMS has officially come to roost in my hamstrings, and it is not pretty. I need a day or two off.

    Bananas and vitamin I, Momo.
My rest day yesterday is paying off, though. Double up today’s WOD with the pull-up ladder and I’m right back on schedule.

I thought they would give us some merciful combination of ghd’s and running, but no such luck.

I’ve already had a banana and two aleve…breakfast of champions, style. Four, actually, if you count the two I took last night. The fact that you are a full day ahead of me on recovery has something to do with the fact that you are a full decade behind me in the aging process, me thinks.

Also, I know I shouldn’t be taking that much anti-inflammatory; but anyone that wants to tell me to stop is going to get TMI, so let’s just head that off at the pass, shall we??

I used to be a big fan of Vitamin I until I read this:
    http://sanfranciscocrossfit.blogspot.com/search?q=ibuprofen
Much of the work you did to make you sore is going to waste when you take ibuprofen because it interferes with the tissue regeneration process that is part of strength gains.
Instead ICE it! That’s what those tiny cups of ice in the fridge are for. Check out K. Starrett’s video on tissue healing in the CrossFit Journal: http://library.crossfit.com/premium/video/CFJ_Starrett_TissueStages.mov?e=1250273564&h=cca41dca7c6204f711aba64c50cd2ba9

Is the pain killer that’s in aleve, naproxin, preferable to Vitamin I or are they all the same??

They are both NSAIDs, non-streroidal anti-inflamatory drugs. Both work by inhibition of prostaglandins, which are involved in the inflammation, tissue healing, and other processes. Sometimes it’s good to inhibit inflammation, sometimes it ain’t. Hangover, yes. DOMS, no.

NEVER take NSAIDs for muscle soreness!!! You are supposed to enjoy that soreness. That is your reward for hard work. :)
Watch Kelly’s video, if I remember correctly, he explains why it is actually counterproductive to take them. Mostly I believe it weakens connective tissue.

I just want you to know that you MADE me go here: what the eff are you supposed to take for cramps??? I have a hydracodone on my nighstand, and I guess I’ll be taking that this evening.

Try opiates. They bind to the pain receptors in the brain.

Guess we have to go there now huh? lol
Have you tried Tylenol or something maybe over the counter? Hard core meds you got there :)
I will admit that ibuprofen always worked better on me in the past, but I’ve switched since reading that article. Best scenario is I don’t take anything unless it literally affects my work day.

You want pain relief without losing your liver? You want something that comes from the earth and been used for hundreds of years by American Indians?
