From the NY Times, Knee Injuries In Girls. The dirty secret in women's sports is the high incidence of knee injuries. Orthopedists say it's anatomy, but recent research suggests it's something else, poor mechanics. Very relevant to this is Kelly Starrett's 3 part lecture series on knee problems in the CrossFit Journal. In part 2 he discusses this very issue. The cause: lack of hamstring and glute strength and control. The cure: squatting and lunging with good mechanics.
