CrossFitAtlanta 189 (4) To break training or not?  That is the question.

Workout of the Day

Double Helen, from the CrossFit Games

For time:
Run 1200 meters
63 Kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood
36 Pull-ups
Run 800 meters
42 Kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood
24 Pull-ups
Run 400 meters
21 Kettlebell swings, 1.5 pood
12 Pull-ups

What a weekend!  The highlight was the final team event.  CF ATL was in 12th, with hopes of performing well enough to finish in the top 10.  We were in the 1st heat, along with seeds 9 through 16.  A blazing performance that had everyone in the stadium going nuts gave us 1st place in the heat, with a time of 10:44, which was shown incorrectly on the scoreboard as 10:47.  So ours was the time to beat when the big dogs from heat 2 lined up.  The time held up, barely, and we finished 1st in the final event.   That moved us to 8th place overall.  8th in the WORLD!  A great way to end.  You can watch a replay of the team final event here, at live.crossfit.com. On the left hand side use the drop down menu to select Jul 18, 10-11 AM, then move to the 45 minute mark to see the start.  Our finish and heat 2 are in the July 18, 11-12 AM segment.

And I say break. Decompress, get healthy (recover) and recharge your batteries.

Great job Mike and team CFATL. Ken and Jonathan, maybe next time you can basket toss the girls to the top of the 20 foot rope.
Mike, you should check out the end of Affiliate last event heat 1. Ken is spreading some rumors there.

Thanks to everyone for your very kind comments all weekend on text, the blog and on mybook, or whatever that fancy networking thing is. It was so fun to watch Mike G and Brandon Phillips compete head to head with the best athletes in the world. Very inspiring guys! Jonathan, Brandon, Leah(s), and Bethanie – thanks for giving it your all out there. You guys/girls are awesome athletes and people. I enjoyed every minute of it, well maybe except the 155# thrusters…My personal favorite was being able to launch the girls (and Jonathan, sorry!) over the wall.

Ill be the first to say im not always the most committed or motivated crossfitter in the world but it was hard not to be inspired after watching Mike G and the team compete in the Crossfit games. Congrats to all who made it to that level! Having said that, just curious to know if that Froning dude even has a rope at his gym in Tenn??? wow, and to think i feel bad when i cant make it up the rope?! That cost him $25,000! but he was awesome to watch the rest of the wkend for sure.
Like i said im more motivated now after watching those events but are we not a wk behind the crossfit website anymore? todays workout is the Saturday morning WOD from the Games (double helen) but I thought i was suppose to be a one arm snatch day? with pullups? Just curious…i may have to give myself another rest day if it is fact double helen. watching you guys compete wore me out:)

I think it is called “MyFace” Ken. I’m pretty sure that is it.
    The workout is “Joshie” today:
Complete three rounds for time of:
40 pound Dumbbell snatch, 21 reps, right arm
    21 L Pull-ups
40 pound Dumbbell snatch, 21 reps, left arm
    21 L Pull-ups

From watching that dude (Froning, AL) tackle those pistols having never done them in a WOD, I don’t think he needs a rope. Esp after he practically L-climbed the thing. I think either his grip went or arms turned to jelly after the first two evolutions.

I just had to watch it again here at my desk at lunch …I got chills — Ken those Muscle ups were like a blur — and seeing Bethanie vault herself over that wall and then Leah , then Jonathan, and you who basically jumped up and jumped down the other side … AMAZING work!!!! I hope you got all our messages about the Bromance in the booth.. THEY were stunned by you! Jonathan , Bethanie and Leah floored them as well.. They best not ever forget CFATL !!! great job on ALL the WODS.. Mike G was a thrill to watch .. and B doing those nasty fast DEADLIFTS!! good stuff ! What a weekend ! Proud to be part of a gym filled with so many talented and amazing people!

Andy- no doubt that his arms were tired and his grib very weak but it was obvious he didnt know how to climb the rope using his lower body/feet to propel himself up.Watch the video on the site and you will see him over and over trying to get his feet on the rope but he didnt know how. At one point he was watching the Graham guy next to him trying to figure it out. If he had enough in him to climb the rope twice using only his upper body then he would have been able to complete or at least finish higher in the WOD if he would have known how to rope climb. I definitely not knocking him because he is obviously a tremendous athlete. I just thought it was crazy how the very last obstacle of the whole wkend was the one thing he wasnt prepared for.

I have until 2020 to try for the Master category. Ok, Mike K — get busy with my training program! Again, great job. I bragged about CFATL at work today — my colleagues were impressed (not me…to the team….)
    Cheers ya’ll
