BTW, we know of an Olympic team breast stroker at the Arden Hills swim club who actually loves this
workout.  Don't try it if you want to be able to walk this weekend.

On April 13 from
5 PM to 8 PM we will have on site a mobile hydrostatic body fat testing
service from Body Fat Test, Inc. Hydrostatic testing is by far the most
accurate and reliable method of measuring body volume and body fat. 
Until now this method was available mainly at universities at an average
price of over $150.  You will need to bring a swimsuit and a towel. 
Eating within 1 hour of the test may affect results as much as 1% but no
more.  Working out and drinking water before the test will not affect
results.  The water is heated, chemically treated, and filtered.  You
will need to totally submerge for about 5 seconds.  A trained technician
will be with you every second.  You will have a private dressing room,
and privacy and confidentiality during the entire test, which takes
about 10 minutes.  Bring your friends if you wish. 

After the test you will get a 4 page print
out showing where you are, thus establishing a realistic baseline to
establish fitness goals and measure progress.  Pricing is $25 for
members, $45 for non members.  You must prepay by check or cash by
signing up at the desk in the gym.  Tests can be run 12 minutes apart,
so reserve your test time on the sign up sheet.  A sample test report is
available for inspection.

    Anybody ever do the tank test? Thoughts on it…worth the time and money? I mean, I know I’m fat…really don’t need another machine to look at me and say, “one at a time please..” but did you get valuable/usable feedback from it.

    I have done the Fat test and Adam you are not wrong. While the test may be valuable to the fitter crowd — if you are a chubbie like me– it is more of a detriment to your self esteem. Machinery telling you what you already know- jsut leads to crying and boxes of girl scout cookies .

    Hey Bethanie,
    Is there a deadline for when people have to post their results? I know we’re supposed to email our votes to you by Monday, but I don’t want to vote until everyone who is planning on posting results does.
    Oh, and I’m definitely planning on doing the BF test. I like numbers even if they won’t really mean anything to me.

    One important metric that these tests provide that you cannot otherwise measure is a measure of lean body mass. Many of you newer people may not be achieving weight loss at a rate you expected, even though you look, feel, and perform better. This is because as you lose the fat, you pack on muscle (especially if you are doing strength work).
    I’m sure there are plans to do this again in a few months, which will make this the easiest way to track your improvement if improved body composition is one of your goals (To look good naked).

    Don’t look at the number as something you should fear or be upset by. If anything, look at it as a challenge, like everything else in CrossFit. Keep working hard like you have been, eating well, and the numbers will take care of themselves.
