Carbs against Cardio: More Evidence that Refined Carbohydrates, not
Fats, Threaten the Heart
. The mainstream media science magazine, Scientific American, which could just as easily be renamed "Politically Acceptable Science," begins awakening to the increasingly overwhelming evidence that the federally prescribed high carb, low fat diet is dangerous.  A delay of almost 40 years since publication of Dr. Atkin's Diet Revolution is about what you might expect for peer reviewed, politically correct science, but the good news is that the tide seems to be turning.  But it's doubtful the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, will ever see the light.  They are the government agency which publishes the Food Pyramid and the Recommended Daily Allowances, and, as the article reveals, they are still stuck on the idea that it's just a matter of calories in/calories out.

Anyone interested in the Men’s Health Urbanatholon in Chicago in October? I think it’s going to be my birthday present to myself. http://www.menshealthurbanathlon.com/

Hey guys-quick question. What is the Rx wallball weight for women? I know usually Rx workouts are 20lbs, but I wasn’t sure if that was also for women or not.
Thanks! (making up a new set of goals for 2010-just completed all of my ones from January!)

This is going to sound weird but I love to paint. It’s the obsessive compulsive art snob in me. I totally volunteer for that .. especially if it’s for sweet sweet beer !…

Haha, we will appreciate your help Danya but you may have to let the “obsessive compulsive” part go when you’re painting with us in our garage gym 😉 just kidding we will need someone like that to hold us accountable!!

    So goals from January 2010:
    1. Solid full-body push up (can do 10 really slow push ups with a really stable plank position now)
    2. Unassisted Pull up (still working on getting this to be the norm for me, but I can do 1 or 2 at a time)
    3. Rope Climb (Monday I decided to practice the hold and just kind of made my way up to the top-I was kind of surprised. Getting down was painful though…rope burn)
    4. Kick up into a handstand (yesterday a coworker and I practiced this-made it up there about half the time)
    5. Consistently attend workouts (been doing pretty well on this, so I’ll call it done)
    6. Transition to a Paleo-diet (now that I’ve lost all that weight and a pants size, I don’t want to go off of the diet…)
    New goals for 2010:
    1. 1 min frog stand
    2. 1 min high bridge hold
    3. 1 min parallette hold
    4. 30 sec freestanding handstand
    5. Handstand push up
    6. Double unders
    7. 24″ box jump
    8. 14lb. wall balls (20 consecutive)
    9. Unassisted dip
    10. Strict pull up

I had lunch there today! Everything was good, had burger – no bun ($8) – sweet potato fries ($3), and small salad ($3). The burgers are pretty small, I’d say 5-6 oz, cooked, so not a huge protein hit. Next time I’d skip the fries and get the large salad ($7). Adding another burger would put the tab over $20.
It was pretty crowded, and the staff said it was a “slow” day!
