CrossFit Atlanta 1986
The Overhead Squat.  Arguably the best core strength exercise there is.  99% of the gyms in America will not let you to do them.

Workout of the Day

Make up Day: Make up a missed workout.  Make up your own workout.  Or try this:

5 Rounds for time:
50 Squats
50 AbMat Situps

Remember, we are closed Saturday for a seminar.  Please go to one of the other local affiliates (except BTB Poncey-Highlands, they are closed for a seminar also).

We won!  We are 1st in the City Voter Best of Atlanta poll!  And out of the top 4 gyms, 3 are CrossFit Affiliates.  Thanks to everyone who voted for us.  That makes it two years in a row.

C.J. Stockel, International level Olympic Lifting Coach, is holding a one day O-Lift seminar in Flowery Branch this Sat.  Highly recommended.

Chalk.  Necessary Evil.

I could not agree more that Crossfit Atlanta is the BEST GYM EVER. PR’d on overhead squats last night. 33lbs. Not hard to do when it’s only your second time doing them!! Just wrote an ode to Crossfit on my facebook page, since all my friends have been asking about Crossfit. You trainers should go read it and correct me where I am wrong…

Hey everyone, just a reminder to not leave anything in your car that might even look nice to a thief. One of the rugby girl’s windows was smashed in last night (and the gym was even pretty crowded). Nothing was taken… think they got scared off. But, never hurts to be too careful and I sure wouldn’t even want to deal with a broken window…especially in this weather! If you see suspicious people in the parking lot…beat them up.

I think I meant 33 kilos, not pounds.

With the chalk link, puleaze!!!! If out gym isn’t saturated with chalk by the end of the day, we aren’t working hard enough. Go back and watch the Beijing Olympics and watch the gymnasts and weightlifters. Then, go to LA Fitness or Gold’s Gym. ‘Nuff said.

Too cold for ALTA tennis practice tonight, so I did the 5x{50 squats, 50 abmat situps}. 22:39 — like most things crossfit, harder than it looks
The chalk article link made me laugh. Crossfit Atlanta: where every visit I learn a new way to get thrown out of a globo-gym.

Followed the links on chalk from the affiliate page and learned something new, and saw something that doesn’t seem correct:
new: when chalking, don’t just pat it on, rub your hands vigorously for 10-15 seconds to really work it in (sounds like good advice!?)
correct or incorrect: too much chalk contributes to tears by making your hands stickier. I thought that chalk did two things: dried your hands (and dry skin is stronger than wet skin), but also filled gaps and ridges in making your hands smoother (less friction on bars).
Since we’ve got a couple of gymnasts and O-lifters in the crowd, what do you guys say about correct chalking technique?

    Steve,
For me, chalk is as much a neurotic habit as a necessity. I’ll chalk up for back squats. I’m sure if you ask other lifters or gymnasts, they’ll tell you the same. If I’m not covered in the stuff when I leave the gym, then it probably wasn’t a very good workout.
It does facilitate bar roll when you reach the rack position on cleans and the lock out on the snatch, so I say use as much as makes you happy.

I’ve cannot imagine too much chalk making your hands sticky, but maybe I never used enough of it. I was always told to put on only so much chalk so it doesn’t fall in your eyes when you are hanging off a bar.
