    He looks like a turtle.
Also, another CF Atl outing on Saturday evening. No specific plans yet. Any suggestions for location? East Andrews and Cosmo Lava have already been shot down.

    Being fat causes cancer: http://www.ajc.com/health/obesity-could-become-top-145462.html
My favorite part: “Scientists aren’t sure why being fat boosts your cancer risk, but suspect it is connected to hormones. As people become fatter, they produce more hormones like estrogen that help tumors grow. People with big bellies also have more acid in their stomachs, which can lead to stomach, intestinal or esophageal cancer.”

Renehan said new strategies were needed to help people stay slim. “We need to find the biological mechanism to help people find other ways of tackling obesity,” he said. “Just telling the population to lose weight obviously hasn’t worked.”

“biological mechanism to..[tackle] obesity”=exercise, no? but then, that would require effort, and I’m guessing they are talking about such a mechanism that doesn’t involve effort. I think you know how I feel about that…

It’s very hard to show that simply being fat causes cancer. To do this you would have to rule out all other things that cause cancer.
And those scientists aren’t sure why obesity is at least becoming associated with cancer incidence because they are too focused on carcinogens. Cigarette smoke has carcinogens – these mutate the cells in a person and give rise to cancer.
For some reason, whenever talking about cancer, people forget to mention that even without carcinogens you are still going to produce mutated cells in your day to day life (low probability, but high number of cell devision = high opportunity). Your immune system easily spots these mutated cells and kills them before they get out of hand.
Now suppose you have a compromised immune system from too much external stress, such as work or jail, or from chronic systemic inflammation brought upon by a high carb diet (which, btw, has been shown time and again to promote obesity). Anytime your immune system is weakened, it is not efficient at fighting off disease and, in our case, mutated cells. Now these mutated cells have time to duplicate.
Add to this a well known promoter of cancer growth – simple carbs in the diet, the primary source of energy for that cancer to grow. Where there is still question on how a disproportionately high simple carb diet initiates cancer, there’s pretty much no debate over the fact that it favors cancer proliferation.

Just ran a 5k 25:44, exactly 50 seconds slower than my PR on this route. But, I walked 1.5 minutes today due to vaginitis. So, maybe i should feel better that i was running a little faster this time? I’ll take it.

Ya. It’s awesome. I can’t move my arms from out of the plane of my body my chest, shoulders, and back are so sore. I look like a Tyrannosaurus Rex, with my arms pinned at my side and little forearms extending out to eat and attempt to type on the computer.
