    Happy Birthday, Dan!
Aside: I was worried that Bethanie might have broken the blog again with her shocking (shocking!) revelations yesterday.

This Thursday August 26th at 7:30pm is the first Paleo Dinner Night at Urban Pl8. It is a $25 4 Course Prixe Fix Paleo menu. This will take place the last THursday of every month. Spots are almost full for this Thursday so call and make reservations today: 404 367 0312
This Friday is the disposable heroes WOD/Fundraiser. The 6pm and 7pm classes are canceled for this. It starts at 7 and we will be getting everything set up for the big group from 6-7 so that’s why 6 must be canceled. If you need to come early to do it you may come at 4pm or 5pm. Otherwise, come do it with everyone else at 7!
Also, mark you calendars for FGB 5. See the link on the right hand side for more information. Let’s get some fund raising going!
Finally, plans for our next paleo challenge are in the works. Marking the beginning, bodyfat testing will be at the gym Monday, September 13th and at the end Wed, October 27th. Start getting mentally prepared!!!! The stakes are going to be raised for this one!

Happy Birthday, Daniel! Try to stay out of trouble. My hip hurts, so I am feeling you on the old-person pain.
Also, I know I should not have done it, but I needed more carbs for training, so I went off the paleo wagon BIG TIME. I haven’t had a migraine in two plus years, and got one last night. Guess who’s paleo again as of today? Me. Lesson learned.
Also, if anyone can help me figure out how to consume enough food not to bonk during endurance work, without eating grains, please fill me in. Short, intense workouts were fine, but on the way home from a run/bike with Jeff, I couldn’t form a sentence until I ate some corn chips.

MOMO try this .. take a can of coconut milk and put it in the fridge so the heavy dense white part separates from the oily fluid. (About an hour or so in the fridge will work ) Scrape off the fluffy white stuff and whip it with protein powder and a dab of heavy cream-Then chill it. It’s like a mousse/ shake that tastes amazing and fills you up . It”s like ice cream – I love chocolate– Recipe courtesy of KP from the 6am crew.

Try Accellerade or Endurox during endurance efforts. True Paleo/Zoners drink olive oil. Also check out the forums or post a query at crossfitendurance.com

    MoMo,
“The Paleo Diet for Athletes” supposedly tackles that very question, and you can read a review that was published in Runner’s World here: http://www.thepaleodiet.com/articles/Runners%20World%20Dec%202005.pdf
Here’s a direct link to the book on Cordain’s website: http://www.thepaleodiet.com/paleo_books/forathletes.shtml

PS: Dan, have a great birthday!

    MoMo, a couple of things:
    1. You know when your long workouts are going to be, so you need to plan your carb intake accordingly a meal or two ahead of the workout. There are plenty of paleo options that have a higher carb count (e.g. sweet potatoes, fruit).
    2. I eat paleo (or I should say gluten free paleo-ish) most of the time, but when I’m actually racing or doing long workouts, I use gels during and bars before and after to dial my blood sugars. During runs or bikes, I budget like one gel an hour. Before the workout/race, I’ll do a gel or a bar and after I’ll usually do bar. For gels, I like powergels or hammergels. For bars, I like Larabars (which are actually paleo) or sometimes slum it with Clif Builder bars. If you are going to use bars or gels in your upcoming race, be sure to practice with the actual type and flavor ahead of time.

    Hey:
I found some cash in the crossfit parking lot this evening. If you lost some cash there shoot me a comment and I’ll get it to you.
On a separate note, at the 6pm tonite Mike R confessed to shitting in the wastebasket in the women’s bathroom. While sane people will agree that Mike’s actions were wrong, he seemed truly sorry for what he had done. He has promised to use only the men’s wastebasket from this point forward. The entire 6pm hugged him as he wept uncontrollably and then to a person forgave him. Please find it in your hearts to forgive him too.
