Did starting strength last night, but during my warm up on squats, I got a sharp pain in my left knee. No idea what that’s about. Subbed deadlifts. Thanks to Vas for helping me with chest press and cleans. Thanks to Charlie for letting me stay late to finish up with deadlifts. That workout last night looked CRAZY.
Tonight I will do yesterday’s workout, and I may even throw in the pullup progression depending on my energy level. I’m guessing I will only get 2 rds in any event, so it shouldn’t zap me that much. My friend just saw pics of me working out at the beach, and she said “those are some crossfit quads if I’ve ever seen them…” In my largest transformation thus far, I am so pleased that my quads are getting bigger.

    Yay burpees!
And chest press refers to bench press, in case anyone was confused.

ha, ha, Vas. I don’t know why anyone would find my description of bench press as chest press confusing because arguably, chest press is more descriptive than bench press. there are other presses for which you could use a bench, such as shoulder press, although I don’t think any self-respecting crossfitter would find themselves seated whilst doing shoulder press…that’s a classic globo gym move, however. I was always taught to sit down while doing shoulder presses, so the first time that came up for a workout, I sat down on a bench and Dan gave me a funny look and said, “stand up.” now it seems so strange to think of sitting down while doing shoulder press. another point: you use the body part to describe the type of press you’re doing with shoulder press, so why would it be incorrect or confusing to use the body part to describe what you’re doing with bench press, i.e., chest?
RM can weigh in on whether the diatribe above contains a proper use of the word “whilst.”

While we’re on the topic of non-descriptive exercise names I think push-press deserves a mention. What kind of pushing? What’s being pushed? What’s doing the pressing? Also, perhaps as a result of my own ignorance, I can’t think of a single press that doesn’t involve pushing or vice-versa.

bravo, peterbassi. what about the abbreviation for box jumps??? last night, I asked one of the tech boys “what’s a bj?” I turned around and walked away in abject humiliation before he had a chance to answer.

I have been working a lot lately and have been missing the gym, so finally I made it into SweatFit Atlanta and had a good WOD. I had to get most of the way into the warm up before talking to people because I needed the exercise to melt away some of the stress first. Can’t wait for this recession to end and get back to normal work load, income, stress levels, etc.
In better news, we have some summer birthdays coming up and we are going to start planning some fun. We will wait until after the games for the party and were thinking about the weekend of the 18th-ish. I know Mike G and I have birthdates around then, who else? Where should we go?

I hear you on the working late thing, Laura. I didn’t get off of work until 10pm last night – I was so frustrated at about 7pm when the realization hit me that I would not be able to make it to the gym.

All of our favorite toons reimagined in different mediums. I particularly like the realistic Mario painting and a realistic take on Guile from Street Fighter. Enjoy.
