    That video is ridonkulous!
    Can someone explain the purpose of Westside Barbell’s (or powerlifters) ubber wide squat, deadlift, etc stance? The range of motion is so small. Granted I can’t squat or deadlift what they are regardless of my stance width, but I just don’t get it. It appears they can go heavier, but what’s the purpose?

    The purpose is explained in Mark Rippetoe’s Starting Strength. The gist of it is this: when you are weight training, the goal is strength, so you lift according to the most functional path, which involves normal stances and larger ranges of motion. When you are competing in powerlifting meets, the goal is not strength but rather maximum load. Thus, lifters adopt a smaller range of motion in order to get higher loads. That’s it. It’s all about the numbers.
    That said, whilst it is extremely impressive to see Priscilla Ribic (a 148-lb female) deadlifting 555 lbs a few inches off the ground with an überwide sumo stance, it is way more impressive to me to see Andy Bolton deadlifting 1009 lbs two feet with a normal stance:

    set a PR today for wearing an ass-shaped dint into my office chair for time. two rest days in a row is not worth it. i don’t care how fresh i will be.

    Miss CFATL! It’s going to be 10″ of snow when I wake up tomorrow.
    My WOD today is 20 min AMRAP — I saw a 24″ box at the rec center therefore I deviced a wod base on that box.
    20min AMRAP — 10 pushups/15 box jumps/ 20 squats/ 25 double unders/ 400m run
    9 rounds + 25 reps
    I lost weight, bad endurance — due to work stress, traveling stress, and bad diet. I can’t wait to be back on my normal schedule. 3 more weeks…..
    Last friday, I PRed DL single max by a few decimeter …. LOL … 315# by 0.88# … I take it!
    I wish I have xcountry skis with me………
