Why choose CrossFit Atlanta over a traditional globo gym, or a some other CrossFit gym?
The following features are what set up apart from any other fitness facility, CrossFit and otherwise.
We start everyone with personal training.
We used to throw people straight into group classes, but found it was a recipe for confusion, injury, and failure. We tried group on ramp classes; that didn’t work. We tried Beginner Classes; that didn’t work. We thought that personal training would be too expensive and people would go elsewhere, but we tried it anyway and found it is far and away the best way to prepare prospective members for success in CrossFit and that is what we have been doing since early 2010.
We rely on functional movements –like squats, cleans, snatches, pull-ups, and a host of others – and when done incorrectly they can cause injury. (A list of the movements we use is here.) We teach people to move correctly. Incorrect movement might be caused by not knowing how to do the movement-you were taught wrong or never learned, and for many people it is also often caused by mobility/flexibility restrictions that prevent correct movement. It takes time and coaching expertise to get people ready for group classes. We have the expertise, and personal training gives us the time to fix problems and get things right. It might take 40 sessions, it might take 4 or 5. For most folks it takes about 10.
We see a lot of people with varying degrees of immobility and restriction in the hips and shoulders. Try this self test for shoulder mobility. Lay down, back against the floor. Squeeze your belly, pull your rib cage down and take the arch out of your back. Now with absolutely straight arms raise your hands over head until you can touch the floor behind your head. If you have to arch your back away from the floor, or if you have to bend your arms, you’ve got a problem in your shoulders and you will get injured doing overhead movements if you don’t get it fixed. We can fix it.
Improving your fitness is a process. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses when they first come in. Some struggle with mobility, others with stability, others come to us after injury or surgery and need to be handled with care. At the other end of the spectrum, some folks arrive at our door well conditioned or with an impressive athletic background.
The point is we all have different needs when we start. It doesn’t make sense to put everyone into a group fundamentals program or to throw folks right into classes. At CrossFit Atlanta, by the time you graduate to classes, you’ll have a good understanding of 20-30 movements, and you will know exactly how to scale each movement to your abilities if you’re not yet able to master everything.
This also means that by the time you get to classes you will feel confident and comfortable showing up to hit the workout with the group. You’ll be prepared for success.
Our benchmarks are scores our members must reach on specific movements and workouts before they graduate to group classes.
Benchmarks are a way to measure your progress so we know when you’re ready for group classes. And once you’re in group classes, benchmarks continue to allow us to assess your development.
On your end, understanding the benchmarks will help you see exactly what we’re looking for, and exactly what level you need to be at before you’re safe to enter group classes.
Benchmarks to enter groups also helps group classes run smoothly because we know that everyone in attendance is at an appropriate fitness level.
CrossFit Group Class
Mondays thru Fridays at 5:30, 6:30, 7:30, 10 AM2 Noon, 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 PM. We have classes on weekends on Saturdays, 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 12:00 Noon. There are also Sundays 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 6:00 PM. We offer more classes than any other CrossFit affiliate in the area.
We know you have a busy and hectic schedule, and since we have more coaches and apprentice coaches than any other CrossFit facility, we have the ability to offer more classes than other facilities.
But more than this, our morning coaches do not coach in the evenings, and our evening coaches do no coach in the mornings. This means that you will not be coached by a tired, burnt out coach at 8 pm. Our coaches work a manageable 20 to 30 hours a week, so they have plenty of energy to give to each member and each class.
We don’t just offer personal training and group classes. We offer both seasonal and ongoing specialty programs for members who are looking to work on their weaknesses, or for members who just want to mix it up a bit.
We have specialized training in these areas:
- Olympic Weightlifting
- Basic Gymnastic Skills
- Pose Method Running
Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about these programs.
Olympic Weightlifting and basic gymnastics are foundational elements of CrossFit. Our specialty programs help members improve these high skill/strength areas, tackle their weaknesses, and provide options for experienced members who want to try something new.
There are many elements that go into making a world-class facility. From the training components like having enough space and equipment to practical components like free parking and showers our facility has all the necessary components to help you get fit and stay fit for life.
The strength of CrossFit Atlanta lies in our community, and a myriad of member organized events and activities. From meet ups at homes, hiking trails & pools, to events at the gym like BBQs, Halloween and Christmas parties, and events like Casino Night, our members enjoy the gym community for more than just fitness.
Fitness is something that should make your life better; it’s not something that should dominate your life. We believe it’s important to be well-rounded. to know how to let loose, have a drink and socialize with friends.
And we have learned that members who are engaged in the community and have made friends with other members are more likely to show up – because they come not just to workout, but also to see their friends.
